Microsoft has Released “Windows 7 Top Feature Request List” Microsoft is building new UI framework
Jan 09

A Microsoft blogger Hilton Locke said that “I will say that if you are impressed by the “touch features” in the iPhone, you’ll be blown away by what’s coming in Windows 7. Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales.”

Bill GatesAlso Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft, talked on 6th January 2008 at International Consumer Electronics Show. He said “The first digital decade was largely driven by the keyboard and the mouse. Just in the last two years we’ve started to see the emergence of other modes of interaction. Touch on the Windows PC, touch on the iPhone, the Surface device that we’re talking about. We started to see speech, - the Tellme capability - built into the phone, the Ford Sync, where you get to talk and interact with your media or your phone capabilities.”

We are waiting to see the new features.

This sounds pretty good to me, can’t wait for the betas.

So what? It’s only for if you get a computer with a touch-sensitive screen.

And “blow you away” isn’t very specific. If he thinks that they can make touch technology for Tablet PCs significantly better than iPhone tech, I doubt he ever tried an iPhone.

Finally, on the MacBook Air, there is already great touch technology, (in Leopard). 1, 2, or 3 finger motions on the touch-pad allow all kinds of conveniences, like switching through programs, viewing photos, zooming, scrolling, etc., depending on what program you’re using.

    Re: Jeff
Don’t be a mac troll. Have you seen how Microsoft Surface works? They can make amazing touch features in the new Windows, provided that’s there focus, which it seems to be at this stage

  4. Jeff Says:

RHSC: Yes I saw the surface. I saw a video of how it works. I think it’s really cool too. It is like a huge iPhone, and because it has a large screen, it has some other really neat features.
But even still, any port of Microsoft Surface into Windows 7 would have to be on special touch-screen computers.

And yes, the MacBook Air doesn’t have all the features of Microsoft Surface, but at least it’s already here with multi-touch support.

  5. Windows 7 Forums Says:

There’s a video of it on the MS Vista Blog (even though it’s for Windows 7) - it’s worth a watch as it shows W7 off a little too.

Hi, folks. My name is Frank (or MrSpock, because of my ears and my dream). I have started programming in 1985 and I work as a software developer now. I am basically both an old-school programmer (started with Pascal) and a new one (a child of the Internet era HTML, PHP) at the same time. I have basically lost a decade in the programming world. Losing the nineties is not as bad as it seems; I skipped the Windows era ;-)

My dream in life is to develop affordable space travel and space tourism. As a result I also love collecting space related photos made by both pro’s and amateurs. One of own personal problems is that I tend to become an expert of a subject very quickly, so I have to keep changing subject often in order to stay sufficiently ignorant :-) This is why I am interested in many topics and many languages. Fortunately space travel has so far proven to be so complex that it will keep my attention for a long time :-)

I’m usually more of just a lurker on the net but I’ll chime in when I feel I need to, looking forward to meeting everyone and being a part of the community! Well I won’t bore you guys and girls any longer, see you all around!
