When I close out a website, I can see the last image of what I was looking at for a split second. What’s happening?

I just acquired a new dell inspiron e1405 and decided to run window 7 on it so far not much problems encountered with the window installation but on other softwares I constantly have difficulties installing them an example is my old architectural program Autodesk 3.3 will not install correctly even much later version like the 2009 Autodesk will still not run. So what do I do to run my old programs which use to work very well on my xp to work on win7.
