Windows 7 will have touch feature Will Windows 7 have a release on H2 of 2009 ?

Not too long ago Microsoft described Windows Presentation Foundation as the “UI platform for the next 20 years”. Surprisingly work is beginning on an even newer Windows UI framework. My Windows Vista clock must be running slow.

WPF Microsoft .NETBearing in mind the arsenal of Windows UI frameworks that exists today - Windows Presentation Foundation, Silverlight, Windows Forms, Win32, Media Center Markup Language and more from third parties; Microsoft has decided to build yet another one “to enable new UI experiences in future versions of Windows”. Here is the job advertisement,

Are you excited about the challenge of building V1 features? Are you passionate about UI development environments? Want to impact the look and feel of future versions of Windows?

The Windows UI Platform team is creating a new Framework that will enable new UI experiences in future versions of Windows.

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test who is highly motivated and has a passion for software test engineering. You will be working with developers, program managers, and members of the test team to ship high quality UI Framework components and APIs. You will be responsible for contributing to the product definition phase, reviewing product specs and designs, creating test plans, designing, implementing, and maintaining high quality test automation. You must be motivated and driven to push changes, improve quality and inspire other high potential SDETs with your technical leadership. Areas include creating test automation framework components and testing APIs as well as lower-level framework features. We are just starting up this V1 project and this is your opportunity to come in and make a great impact.

I hear this new framework is going to replace XAML with BEDAZZLE. On a more serious note, the shovel has only hit the ground so keep learning your XAML. It almost certainly won’t be shipping in Windows 7.

Good. The Vista UI was hardly an improvement. I like the Aqua one much better, and it seems maybe (judging by fake screenshots) that it will go more in that direction.

I Think its good there building a new UI one more easier to use, but at the same time distinctlly windows. Because i don’t want to wind up confuzed with a UI such as Mac OS *shudders*

I hope the User Interface of Win 7 will be very innovative. The only way to do that is to get public input, I think. The ones who have a clear vision of what design or features Win 7 GUI should have, can hopefully be used as a means for brainstorming. That’s if Microsoft are accepting new ideas from Win users (NOT LIKELY!!!!!). So speaking of which, it’ s clear to me that this GUI should be very user friendly, not too cluttered looking, organized (easy to understand & learn; think IKEA), and have a skin engine that you can customize (I don’ t want Stardock’ s Object Desktop to go out of business, actually). I think the windows start bar & menu system should be changed radically, for it should be more modular. There should be a main bar in the middle of the desktop (which you can move or stretch), It should have your main system icons on them, When you touch each of them they animate, when you click, a window or windows pops up. These windows would have different purposes; Control Panel, Programs directory, Trash bin, Explorer icons for games , music, photos, videos, downloads, for example, you get the picture. You can add more or customize it if you want. If you say; ” Sounds like another Mac clone! “. Did I say it has to look like a Mac, NO ! Did I say that you can customize the look & feel, YES. Remember, I said ” SKIN ENGINE “. Microsoft would make the core features, Third Parties like Stardock, would handle the rest ! Now, If people want the old XP or Vista look, it would be there, too, but please Microsoft, No more win 95 or 98 looks, please! Other modular bars would, for example, be used for adding gadgets, apps indicators (which are being used), clipboard, various file & task management, and the like. Again, everything can be created via the users imagination ! You would have control to form your own desktop system based on your needs ! Boot screens & Log ons; Yes of course, bring them on as well ! On the Control Panel; all system features would have icons with large text highlighted. Click on it, and a pane would pull out with sub features listed. Another pane would have a task list, asking what to do next, and so on ! Food for thought!!!!!!!!!!
