Windows 7 Recycle Bin Shortcut on TaskbarThe Tech-Recipes tutorial blog writes up a quick guide on docking the Recycle Bin icon as a separate item on the Windows 7 taskbar, instead of underneath Windows Explorer.Following the guide is simple enough—just create a new shortcut to explorer.exe with shell:RecycleBinFolder as an argument, assign the Recycle Bin icon in the properties, and then choose Pin to Taskbar on the context menu. Once you are finished, you’ll have a separate recycle icon on the taskbar—useful for quick access to deleted files without having to hunt down an icon on your desktop, especially since Windows 7 doesn’t natively include the ability to pin the Recycle Bin to the taskbar.

So, basically what this does is continue to turn the Taskbar into an OS X Dock? All that we need now are dockable folders with Stacks and icons that will shrink in size when they use up all the available horizontal space.

In any event, I was WONDERING how to do this, thanks!

Actually, hold on a second. I tried it, and what I’m left with is an icon on taskbar that will let me open the recycle bin, but it won’t let me put anything directly into it. Not much point without that ability.

I keep checking back to this article every so often hoping to find that someone has posted a comment that gives us a real solution for the recycle bin on the taskbar, but still nothing yet. ::sigh::

There is a better way, at least in older versions of Windows, I have not done it yet in Windows 7.

If you make a toolbar based on your desktop it gives you access to all your desktop “special” icons such as the Recycle Bin, My Computer, etc.. and you have all the functionality you should expect including drag and drop and your right click options like “Empty Recycle Bin” or “Manage”. If you like to put favorite programs icons on your desktop it also gives you access to launch those with out having to “Show Desktop”.

I will have to check it on my laptop I put the RC on and see if it still works in Windows 7.
