Love & HateYou may be still using a version Windows or you swap to another OS because of hating something on Windows. Or there are reasons why you use it, love it. For example i hate the “Search System” of Windows. It takes half of my life to find something on my PC. But i am still using Windows because it is easy to use.

Let us know what you love or hate on Windows.

I love it. Everyone complains about the minimum requirements being too high. I think that’s good though. We need a big push like this to start using better computers and go into the next generation of graphics, RAM and CPUs etc.

  2. Grafix_Guy Says:

Yea, your exactly right, I LOVE Vista and it is a HUGE improvement to the aging 6 yr. old XP. Your exactly right, we need a push over to the core 2 duo/2gb ram/250GB Hrad drive era, its just the same thing with every other Windows, You know, if i’m running win 95 on a 486 w/ 16mb ram just fine, then i upgrade to this win 98, and start bitching about how slow it is WELL DUH ITS SLOW. You know this is too true with people who bought a Dell Dimension 2300 like 5 yrs ago w/ a P4 and 256 mb ram, and they’re told by Best Buy that they need to upgrade, NO, JUST GET A NEW PC! Vista PC’s are too cheap now from OEM’s OTHER than DELL.

I just wanna scream when ppl tell me vista runs slow on their p4, damnit. Or that they went back to XP becasue Vista didn’t work. Here’s the problem, they’re too damn stupid! If they would have read the instructions for that printer they’re trying to install MAYBE IT WOULD WORK, or maybe if they hadn’t had closed that ‘Identifying the Problem’ Dialog box…..

VIsta is in some ways an improvement. Graphics are way better then XP but then again it is not consistent enough. I mea when i choose black, not everything is black. Some pieces of a windows are still green what gives somehwat an ugly result. I also prefer more neutral colors. And yes imo, those system requirements are a bit to high. My XP with shell runs faster and is more beautiful in my opinion.

I own vista and xp, and I think that vista has only two advantages over xp; fancy window manager (aero), and more dual core and advanced hardware support. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that it crashes easily, and is a pain in the @ss to navigate. Yes, xp is aging, but i’d still much rather have xp on my new amd dual core 6000+ 4 gig ram 320 gig hdd machine than vista.

P.S. if you want a fancy window manager, get linux. I know the linux os isn’t nearly as good as windows or mac, but as for desktop acceleration, microsoft or apple (well.. maybe apple) will never be able to beat ubuntu with compiz fusion.

I hate Windows like I hate a restaurant that charges a lot but serves mediocre food.
I love Mac like I love a good pizza.

I’ve used Windows from 95 through XP (and still use XP a bit), and I also tried a little Vista. It’s not like it’s really horrible or anything, but it’s just not good enough. I can use it fine, but it is a little overly-complicated in some areas, making it harder to learn than it needs to be. It is too easy for the system to get messed up (very susceptible to viruses or just installing a bad Windows update that slows down the system). When I used Windows ME, it was so unstable, I really got angry at Microsoft. XP was pretty good, though. But upgrading XP to Vista, from reports I hear, is just not reliable. Plus, it seems to me that they implemented a lot of stuff into Vista only after it was already found in Mac/Linux. Vista, again, is too bloated and runs too slowly. Some of the updates or security warnings in Vista (and Windows in general) I find are too intrusive. Finally, it is too expensive, especially for the versions that actually have all the features Microsoft advertises.

I recently started using Mac (an Intel core 2 duo iMac running OS X 10.4 Tiger), and I must say, it is a world of difference! Everything I don’t like in Windows is just right in Mac, and upgrades are much more reliable and less expensive. And, if I were to guess, Time Machine and Spaces are things to look out for in Windows 7.

Can I ask, if this is a site about Windows 7, why is it designed after the Mac Aqua theme?

I have been using windows since 3.1 came out. I grew up with it and i find it difficult to migrate to another OS at this point (after 10-15 years of windows). Windows isn’t great, it’s not stable but it’s very user friendly and very intuitive. Sys requirements are high for vista, and i’m not going to use it, i used Windows XP on my pc without problems for 3 years, if you know how to tweak your OS and keep it running smoothly you can actually start calling Windows “a stable OS”.

I am a web designer/gamer and this is another reason why i won’t change my OS. Gimp sucks compared to Photoshop, programs that let you play windows games on Linux don’t emulate all games, Linux doesn’t have correct drivers for all graphic cards.

So you might say i like Windows. I’ve learned to use it, tweak it and keep it running smoothly.

    #1 pet peeve about Windows:

Draconian DRM measures and restrictive EULA terms. Pirates will always pirate. Hackers and crackers will always defeat any embedded copyright protection measures. For the rest of us, stop treating us as criminals. What happened to the simpler days of Windows where you just entered a serial number and voila , you’re done registering?

    Tips for Windows 7:

    1) Make it 100% lean and modular. At installation, let the user select ‘Full’, ‘ Typical’, ‘Minimal’ or ‘Custom’ installation. For Custom, the user can select precisely what he wants or does not want. IE? WMP? Messenger? Games (eg Minesweeper-Solitaire). Display Themes, Microsoft’s Spyware cleaner. Windows Firewall. He can install any additional stuff he wants later from the disc.

    2) If you need to change the UI, do so in incremental steps. It is very frustrating for users to navigate through Vista. More clicks. Usual stuff not there. Not intuitive.

    3) Stop charging cut throat prices. Even big businesses hesitate at the crazy volume licensing plans of Vista. Hint to MS: you can actually save a lot by cutting down on most of the pre-launch marketing crap and channeling the money to software development or pass on the savings to customers (and actually curb piracy by encouraging more legit purchasers.

    4) Don’t break legacy support and/or cause the ’supported drivers not available’ after launching the new OS. It’s a PR disaster.

    5) New future techs to support: Blu-ray, USB3

Ive never used windows. :] Never ever. I would love to try it. I would. I just live in a city that is all about macs, and having a windows is taboo.

What I dont like by what ive heard…

    1. bugs, keylog, spyware… etc. People don’t bother to make this crap on macs, because 90% of computers are windows, and well… about 79% are XP.
    2. minimum requirements for vista! ughz, too high!

    What I like about Mac!

  10. Matt Says:

I love windows vista. It runs very nicely, provided you have the hardware to run it. For example, on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with 2GB of RAM desktop, it’s very good. On my Dell Inspiron 4000 with a 700MHz P3 and 256MB of RAM, it is rather slow. But hey, that’s progress, regardless of if it’s Windows, Mac, or Linux.

  11. Brian Jester Says:

I also run Windows Vista at home and at work, and at work, wher I’m a system administrator, I Blue Screen the Vista machine every day. I’m working with CF (Compact Flashes) and building WinPE 2.0 on them, all by the book (Windows OPK (OEM Preinstallation Kit)), and I “Safely Remove) the CF’s, and each and every day, I Blue Screen the Vista box. Real pain in the neck. But it is very pretty.

  12. Ka Do Says:

If you take off the ‘beautiful’ graphical elements of VISTA and look a little bit deeper you will soon figure out how unreliable and instabile VISTA really is! Most people get blinded by its fancy look but beside this look there is nothing in VISTA what I can’t do under XP! (And even this look can be cloned to a XP system)

I tried several times to switch entirely to VISTA but above reasons made me going back to Windows XP … VISTA is somehow ‘unfinished’ and its high system requirements do not do any good since most of these requirements are for the fancy interface!

In performance, reliability and stability VISTA is one of the worst Windows versions ever!

  13. Danilo Says:

Well people ,i just have to say this. Windows is great and maybe the vista is not so good as we expected but there is no one OS that will support all that bunch of hardware on the world… With linux you probably wont wind half support for your PC, and MAC have their own machines so, that is why everything runs(almoast) smoothly… But i have mac at home and it is not so gratefull and it is eating your money whenever it can. And you can not change parts on old mac bc it is not compatible with new one so you buy a new MAC!!! If i change grafic card then i have to change my monitor bc it is not compatible with an older one… MONOPOL in MAC world ,and freedom in PC world!!!

    Sorry for my english…

I too have been using windows since 3.1 but up untill xp I was quite content with windows but I have found that vista is slower playing videos and such with 4 times the memory and a processor almost twice as fast as my last computer. Although this one and my last were both laptops. there is no reason why a laptop or any other computer these days should struggle with playing videos.I do like some of the features but there is also a lot of junk on there too.I feel there is a lot I think Microsoft could do to improve things. I have also tried Linux in the past was nice aside from the lack of driver support.I sincerely hope that they (microsoft) can cut the amount of base resources required especially since when a person buys a new comp with a 2 gig processor and 2 gigs of memory and cant play dvd’s reliably when a 20 dollar player plays better let alone try ot work with divx or xvid.

  16. COhara Says:

I hate windows 7, because my computer is only 3 months old… I just put a free upgrade to windows 7 on my computer about a month ago and its crashing. Once the laptop is shut and you go to open it back up the screen does not come back on. It will not go any further than a couple of pages on the internet. Screw windows 7!! My computer is done for and its only 3 months old!
