Microsoft released the “top feature request list” which is created from the feedbacks of Windows users. The features aren’t listed in a particular order, they break down into various categories depending on which part of Windows the feature request falls under. Many features are about IE and Office implementation like “session restore function” and “download manager in IE”. There are even requests like “ability to back up Xbox 360 games to a PC“. You can see the top feature request list here.

I agree about the mail, and to take it a step further, why are they so many other program overlaps. Examples… Zune Player/Media Center/Media Player (all with separate (redundant) libraries), MSN Messenger/Live Messenger/Windows Messenger, Office picture viewer/ Windows Picture viewer/Paint/Windows Live Photo Gallery, Windows Update/Microsoft Update, it seems for every one task I’d like to accomplish there’s at least three software packages that almost work for it (there should be one that does it well).
As for my own suggestions… include the above, plus…
- A code optimizer built into the OS that strips out billions of lines of unused code once my system is stable. I’m tired of blaming the hardware – have you ever seen how fast Win98 runs on a newer processor? try it sometime.
- Ability to create a boot CD/DVD (WinPE?)
- Ability for WMP to deal with large music libraries without so much lag.
- Ability to flag all important OS files as READ ONLY, and require a password or some form of security before allowing a WRITE.
- Partition the OS onto a separate portion of hard disk to make system recovery easier.
- Ability to change the HAL of an OS without rebuilding entire OS from scratch.
- Separate user space completely from OS space on hd.
- Ability to actually uninstall programs from any vendor and KNOW that Everything was removed, and no longer linked or on disk in any manner.
- Use of ‘F6′ disk or USB stick should be enhanced to allow for a “Windows Update” approach to upgrading the drivers provided on disk.
- Improve Login screen (Vista in-mind) when computer is joined to a domain so that the console user does not need to type in the entire computer name when switching to a local user (DOMAIN\USER to COMPUTERNAME\LOCALUSER) as the machine name can be quite long, and not easy to remember.
Got plenty more, but not sure anyone asked…

i got another one make explorer and internet explorer seperate programs
internet explorer should be no larger than 15 mb’s and explorer should in no way effect internet explorer.
strip not used or rarely used programs out of installation and let user after installation or setup is done install or go to microsoft website and download these programs free.
make one decent photo program combines windows photo gallery and paint and some useful features to it name it windows photo.
complete redesign of windows media player, combine all features of zune software and windows media player and make a new windows media player that only syncs with zune
drop plays for sure from windows media player and make seperate program for plays for sure like first zune software. let mp3 player manufacturers include it and allow it to be downloaded on microsoft website. have plays for sure media player that syncs with plays for sure devices.

They should apply the multiple licensing or you can install windows in more than one pc just like in Mac OS X leopard that you can install it on more than one mac.
Less RAM consumption for Internet Explorer.
Svchost not eating too much processing and RAM

Nice job with making the list an image, NOT!
How do you expect people with vision problems to enlarge the text if it’s an image?
Can you not be so lazy, and type up the list as text so I can enlarge it? And in the future don’t use images as a replacement for text!

I don’t think any people had problems to see the list. It is as easy as “click and zoom” in your browser. In any case, if you couldn’t see it, i can send you the list by e-mail. Of course, if you give a valid e-mail address instead of nospam@nospam.com
Anybody, if you have problems to see the list, i can mail it to your e-mail address.

Let’s focus on “real” features:

Windows 7 needs a disk defragmenter with a progress indicator and analysis of file system, just like in Windows 200/XP/2003/early Longhorn.
The disk defragmenter in Vista has a stupid spinning donut that doesn’t tell you what is going on.
Also, put the Longhorn 4074 interface into it so you don’t need all the graphics power on the planet to run it!

here are requests that would greatly enhance
my experience with windows 7
my request for windows 7 is to implement a feature
that enables to save pictures with pre-selected namings
from a prewritten list box that appears as you save a jpeg
For example when you save a jpeg thats named 01 and
you already have 01 in that folder it tells ou do you wish to
overwrite, this is annoying when you have saved dozens of jpegs with numbers that already exist in your photo folder by renaming them every single time
what i propose is to be able to write a bunch of
pre written names and numbers into a special file
naming menu box (with auto detect and auto increment)
that allows you to save pics with different
numbers and names combos from that menu box
when it detects that the assigned jpeg number already
matches a number in your photo folder.
or that saves the files with assembled pre-assigned
names and numbers from that prewritten
menu box list regardless of the assigned
number(s) on the file.
I would also like to be able to better group
rename my jpegs rather than just brackets
and an increment id like to be able to use underscores
rather than brackets and or just an underscore
and a increments without renaming the file(s)
better rename capability in general would be
appreciated
making the pagefile.sys file visible and drag and dropable
into another location and or to another drive
Same for browser cache. if possible (would be great)
Would be sweet if windows 7 had a size no bigger than
3,5GB and kept as much attractive and useful things
from vista ultimate (if possible of course)
bring the OS pagefile usage down to 100 MB or less
by getting rid of many useless network background
processes (getting rid of any background process you
don’t need for the task you are doing) basically.
would also be great if windows 7 be sold on a fast loading
usb key like an OCZ ATV Turbo 35MB/s 4GB Flash Drive
complimenting the 7MB/s DVD format (which is slow)
could help make install times aprrox 5 to 10 minutes
rather than 30/40 minutes depending on size of OS
And Cds get scratched (imo usb is better)
being able to upper and lower case and capitalize
entire paragraphs by highlight, in word and bloc note!
more modern age looking folders and more colors available
being able to add different colors or wallpapers within folder backgrounds (basics are nice but one does get tired of seeing the same dashboard everyday)
being able to make photos in folders appear bigger
and adding a lanczos filter so they dont get warped
as you make them bigger.
An intuitive crop option in picture viewer
A built in pdf reader
A built in microsoft win-rar
Allow screenshots to be instantly saved in a
pre-selected screenshot folder rather than
pasted in paint so that we can take
quick screenshots of games like a fast
shooting camera.

more little things that could make a positive difference.
Implementing photo-crop like” web page and document text special highlighting feature that enables you to highlight and select specific text precisely in a vertical cell column without grabbing a bunch of unwanted text on left and right side.
would be sweet if every app/software and device built to function perfectly on xp worked perfectly on windows 7 so as to encounter no hardware or software or performance hit related issues by switching to it.
Making Windows 7 License good for at least 3
household Pc’s.
A good quality spell checker for word pad and bloc notes.
Adding a ‘text-align: justify’ button in word pad
(useful for printing)
Make java script in explorer many fold more energy efficient and performing (less taxing on cpu/virtual memory)
(As a feature complementing ordinary explorer bookmarks). – A feature that lets you save and export browser bookmarks into a an attractive offline webpage
with customizable colors+text and aero glass designs and (with mini page preview option) coming in a dozen presets. (with an update bookmarks from list feature)
being able to save all open tabs in a
pre-existing bookmark folder in ie
