Windows 7 is Microsoft’s newest operating system after Windows Vista.
Previously code-named Blackcomb and Vienna, it is touted as a major improvement over its notorious predecessor - lighter, snappier and more feature-laden than Windows Vista.
Infact, Windows 7 even runs well on older hardware, as Paul Thurrot (Winsupersite.com) found out…

Release Date
Windows 7 is scheduled to be release on Oct 22nd 2009. However, Microsoft currently has a limited time offer for pre-orders for the Home Premium and Professional Upgrade editions. |
Compatibility
Since Windows 7 is an incremental and not a major upgrade to Windows Vista, it is expected to be compatible with the majority of programs that run under Windows Vista. |
